The Paula Deen issue...

Here's what I posted to FB last night... I got some discussion going amongst my peers... there was much going on about that issue that I didn't know about...

"People keep saying leave Paula Deen alone and to that I say... Didn't they make an example of Mike Vick over dog fighting? Then surely she should be made an example of for her actions as well and she isn't being incarcerated, she's just losing everything... He recovered, so will she... well there you go... The word nigger use to mean "being ignorant" but to any other race except to a black person ...it IS A RACIAL SLUR--that means it carries weight!!! And what does it really mean to have a plantation wedding? I mean really!!! I'm not saying she shouldn't be forgiven as we all should, but its time to stop sweeping racially charged comments under the rug as if it doesn't affect black people or that we should just "get over it" its hurtful and it should be treated as such... My 2€  http://i.word.com/idictionary/Nigger"

Another issue I have with topic is... Walmart, Smithfield, Target.. they've all dropped her endorsements, but uhm... let's talk about their unfavorable labor practices... is this not the pot calling the kettle black here...

As I write this, I want anyone to know that I am not writing this to sway anyone's opinion or am not too keen on anyone trying to sway mine. The reason that we are able to have healthy thought provoking and meaningful conversations is because of the differences of opinions. This helps us to be conscious and knowledgeable.

I wasn't aware of the initial comments of her wanting a plantation wedding, and then I found out the following from posts on FB that a caucasian woman is suing her and her brand, that her brother and their management staff condoned and used the n-word even calling the staff niggers, that they made comments such as .. F you and your civil rights... and if it were up to them, they'd send all niggers back to Africa (as if that's where all black people lived - I've only lived in America).. that they only had one restroom to use and they had to enter and exit from the back door, they couldn't come in the front door (jim crow south).. that is just to name a few and Ms. Paula Deen allowed this treatment of her staff and employees.

I'm appalled that in today's society, this has gone on for so long and still happens...until there are REAL laws in place that doesn't allow the sweeping under the rug of this kind of treatment calling it what is blatantly is.. there will always be racism in America...

and that's the sad truth, but very poignant truth of race relations in America...
